*Quote(s) that resonated with us this week:

“All that really matters is that the people you love are happy. Everything else is just sprinkles on the sundae.”

“Your dream doesn’t have an expiration date. Take a deep breath and try again.”

“Don’t let your bad day make you feel like you have a bad life.”

“If you can’t think of anything nice to say…..you’re not thinking hard enough.”

“You can’t hang out with negative people and expect to live a positive life.”

World Language

The Latin Department is administering the National Latin Exam this week. The NLE is a competition. Students across the world, take the same assessment. More information about the assessment can be located here: https://www.nle.org/

But please don’t think that is all we are doing… here are 8th graders preparing a debate about whom they would side with based on a story they read and making sure to present their arguments with Latin evidence. Elected student judges decide the winner based on the best argument and the best use of Latin of course!

Physical Education

Students enjoyed the new IHT Spirit Heart Rate Monitors (HRM) during Physical Education recently. This results in learning the benefits of being in their target heart rate zone and feeling motivated. Thanks to the amazing Saxe PTC for making it possible for our students to experience!

Emotional Intelligence (EI) in Action

Saxe staff were recently asked, “What are some of the positive outcomes of the EI work that you see at Saxe?” Here are some of the responses that show EI in action!

  • Students are more responsive than in the past when we talk about being respectful. I see a stronger effort to change behaviors.
  • Students have been more self-aware of their actions and how their actions affect others.
  • Students are starting to use our charter words every day. I overheard a small group of students working together and they would not move on to the next question/activity until all three of them were finished and ready. One student who was behind on one section thanked his group members for making him feel included

Below are some shots of Mr. Lepisto and Dr. Bliss working with classes on the Regulating Emotions lesson.

Saxe News

Check out the latest Saxe News! The topic for this week is Emotional Intelligence. Thanks to Mr. Petrakopoulos and his film crew for producing fun, informative shows for us all to enjoy.

Around Saxe

Award Winning Team – Samsung Challenge

Thank you to all of the people who helped our team reach great success and be chosen as THE winner and representative for Connecticut in the nationwide Samsung Solve for Tomorrow Contest. Our students, Sophia Lee, Alexandra McManus, Gustov Neubohn, Kailin Downey, Ben Skrellunas, Alexandra Gelvin, Anav Sahay, and Alex Dathan deserve a round of applause for their tremendous effort. These students worked hard to help a student in need. This is truly kindness in action. Be prepared to be inspired:

Saxe/NCHS Collaboration

We love to see the interaction between our two schools! Here are a few pics of some awesome seniors helping our 8th graders register for NCHS courses.

Saxe students represented our school well at the state competition. There were 138 mathletes and 19 teams competing. In the team competition, we placed 9/19. We are very proud of our students who all finished in the top half of the field. Congratulations to Luke Huang, Sahil Teredesai, Daryl Lavin, and Lucas Liu!
