2021.10.29 – Saxe Weekly

October 29, 2021

Dear Saxe Family,

As nice as it has been outside, it may be hard to believe this is the last week of October. In case there was any doubt that Halloween is this weekend, we had quite a few of our students dress up and the spirit around Saxe today was off the charts! There were many creative outfits, all followed the guidelines and kept them in good taste, and fun was had by all. Thanks to everyone who joined in making today a fun day at Saxe!

This week in the Saxe Weekly, we take a look at Saxe News, the latest one-second everyday, Halloween themed videos and pictures, Health Education, Mandarin, emotional intelligence, theatre, Saxe in the News, clubs, sunrises, sunsets, & rainbows over Saxe, celebrations, a fond retirement farewell, recess, dogs of Saxe, and much more. Enjoy and have a wonderful weekend!

Be Well,

Dave Gusitsch

Principal, Saxe Middle School

Saxe News

The Saxe News crew was back at it for a quick Halloween edition. Enjoy!

One Second Everyday

Back again for this week – the latest Saxe Middle School 1-Second Everyday! “Life is made of seconds.” Showcasing so much of what makes Saxe Middle School great! This will be a recurring, bi-weekly feature. At the end of the year, we will have a full version that includes every single day of the 2021-22 school year. Enjoy! (pro tip: to enjoy the video at a slower pace, change your viewing option to .75 speed).

Band

Congratulations to Ms. Rosen and her 6th-grade band class on this creative Halloween creation! Click here to see the video…

Health Education

Health Tip Of the Week: Having an emotional first aid kit can go a long way for students and adults alike. Being able to understand emotions and deal with them in Healthy ways is going to help you improve your emotional health and help you grow as a person. Here are 2 great examples of 7th Grade Work from the Red Team in Mr. Tiscia’s Health class focusing on tips and tricks for your Emotional First Aid Kid.

Mandarin

Sixth-grade Mandarin students played games to review the 40+ “radicals” (linguistic roots of the Chinese written words) they learned in the first quarter.

Awareness

October is AAC Awareness Month, Dyslexia Awareness Month, & ADHD Awareness Month

Do vision problems cause dyslexia? (click to find the answer)

Emotional Intelligence Update

Ms. Bohlmann’s 6th-grade class worked on how they would help each other live the Charter – to help each other feel Comfortable, Happy, Respected, Included and Safe. Great job all!

Saxe Theatre

Next Weekend, our Saxe 5th and 6th graders will be performing Disney’s “Moana Jr.,” a 60-minute musical adaptation of the award-winning Disney animated film. It features all of the beloved songs from the film, including two of my favorites, “How Far I’ll Go” and “You’re Welcome!” You can join us in the Saxe Auditorium on Friday (11/5) at 7:00 P.M. and Saturday at 11:00 and 2:00 by purchasing tickets to the live show here, or, if better, you can also watch the Friday show online by purchasing live stream tickets here!

Our outdoor areas were put to good use during this beautiful fall day at @SaxeMS! We are so grateful to be able to get our students outside and all the benefits that come along with fresh air, movement, & sunshine!

Some of the most memorable moments happen during opportunities for “free time”. Here is one of our Saxe students draining the 3-pointer to cap a straight run through the entire Around the World circuit – so neat to see!

Dogs of Saxe

This dapper dog is in the halloween spirit, too!

We had some special visitors outside today! Both are cute but the puppy was a showstopper!
