January 7, 2022
Dear Saxe Family,
Welcome back, Happy New Year, and, happy snow day! Between the ice on Wednesday and the snow today, 2022 has kept us on our toes to kick off the new year. Upon our return earlier this week, we came back with renewed hope but also cautiously responsive to the ever-changing world around us. We adjusted some of our safety and mitigation measures to keep our students and staff healthy and well while continuing to operate in an environment that is comfortable, welcoming, and conducive to learning. It was wonderful to have everyone back and we look forward to a great year ahead!
This week in the Saxe Weekly, we take a look at our return for 2022, Math, Health, safety in our schools, lots of weather events, and much more. Enjoy and have a wonderful long weekend!
Be Well,
Dave Gusitsch
Principal, Saxe Middle School
Upcoming Noteworthy Dates:

*Quotes that resonated with us this week:
“The new year stands before us, like a chapter in a book, waiting to be written. We can help write that story by setting goals.” -Melody Beattie
“The magic in new beginnings is truly the most powerful of them all.” – Josiyah Martin
“Life is change. Growth is optional. Choose wisely.” – Karen Kaiser Clark
“For last year’s words belong to last year’s language. And next year’s words await another voice.” – T.S. Eliot
“What the new year brings to you will depend a great deal on what you bring to the new year.” – Vern McLellan
Math
In Mr. Vigliotti’s Math 7 classes, students are working on problem solving and equations. In class, students use models to reason about the way different parts of equations go together and the importance of keeping equations balanced to find solutions. They use manipulatives such as Hands on Equations as well as online tools to foster a deeper understanding of the material.
In 8th Grade Algebra, students used their touch screen chromebooks to interact with their understanding on their system of inequalities unit using Desmos. Students were able to receive feedback on their work while teachers worked with small groups of students.
Safety Update
In addition to revisiting all of our safety mitigation strategies (ventilation, physical distancing, masks, lunch/recess rotations, etc.), we went back to utilizing the auxiliary gymnasium to keep students spread out as much as possible during lunches. We are hoping this is a short-term move, but we are doing everything possible to keep our students and staff safe and in school. A special thank you to our Physical Education teachers who have been absolute role models in being flexible, adaptable, and doing whatever it takes for the good of the cause!
NCPS is still Hiring
