“How high you fly is derived from how big you think.” – Robin Sharma

“To succeed, you need to find something to hold on to, something to motivate you, something to inspire you.” –Tony Dorsett

Honoring and Remembering 9/11

This morning, students and staff heard the following announcement. It does not seem possible that the events of 9/11 took place 20 years ago, but it is important to recognize and remember how this date influenced so many within our community.

On the eve of 9/11, we are seeing a lot of “Americana” on display at Saxe. On this 20th anniversary we will honor, remember, & never forget… 🇺🇸

We are grateful that our Art Department is able to meaningfully pay tribute to those impacted by 9/11.

Social Studies

Anticipation guides, barometers, chalk talks, picture walks, turn and talks, cooperative learning – these are just some of the many strategies and routines that help our students better engage in our unit inquiry as well as build relationships with their peers. Here are some pictures across grades 5 through 8 during our first week plus of school.

STEM

2021 Congressional App Challenge (CAC) is a nationwide event intended to engage students’ creativity and encourage their participation in STEM fields. This is an invitation for middle school and high school students to compete with their peers by creating and exhibiting an original software application (also known as an “app”). The apps will be evaluated by a panel of local judges who work within the academic, software, and entrepreneurial fields. The winning app from each congressional district which hosted a Challenge will be featured on the U.S. House of Representatives’ website and displayed in a U.S. Capitol exhibit. Please see Rules and Guidelines for additional details. Students and families can also visit the official website at www.CongressionalAppChallenge.us for more information.

Photo Day is Upon Us!

Pictures for Grades 5 & 6 are on Tuesday, September 14th and Grade 7 & 8 on Wednesday, September 15th. Everyone will get their picture taken on their assigned day and a few weeks after you will receive ordering information and package breakdowns directly from Irvin Simon.

Lunch Cards

Please help our cafeteria staff provide the best, most efficient lunch experience possible by remembering your Saxe lunch card! Thanks for pitching in…

Tweet Street

Please feel free to follow all the action at Saxe Middle School on Twitter at @SaxeMS

From Wednesday: “Welcome back & hope you had a great long weekend! Today is an “F-day” and we look forward to seeing everyone back… Have a great day, All!”

We had a little rain this week, but our students were still smiling as they headed into school!

Whether it is for outdoor learning, mask breaks, or recess, we love seeing our students getting outside! And, you never know what you’ll see (in this case, some AWESOME socks!)

Executive Function Bootcamps

We enjoyed checking out some of the Executive Function bootcamp lessons in 6th-grade this week. This is such an important series of lessons for our students and our teachers do such a great job with them…

So excited to see the Calm Room coming to life! It’s a work in progress and we’re looking forward to our students’ feedback.

Dogs of Saxe

A couple of happy Dogs at morning drop off, wishing their humans a great day at school!

(Ok, this wasn’t technically on campus, but I figured the hat would help Melvern qualify for “Dogs of Saxe”…)

5th and 6th Grade Musical

If you are interested in participating in the 5th & 6th Grade Musical auditions for Moana Jr.  Please go to the WEBSITE and register and sign up for an Audition Time Slot Monday, September 13th or Tuesday, September 14th.  Make sure you have learned the audition song and dance prior to coming to audition. If you are interested in participating in the Crew you can register on the Crew Page of the website.

Around Saxe

Still “Twinning!”

Some t-shirts bring me right back to my own middle school years – “Oh, yeaahhhhh!”

I could never show any favoritism to any student at Saxe, but I do enjoy seeing one of my favorite teams being represented on campus!

Thanks to our friends over at NCHS for sharing our mascot visiting their campus in their own weekly newsletter!

Have a great week!

* A special thanks to Lauren Sherwood for the continuous stream of positive, optimistic quotes!

  1. I’m a grandmother of two new-to-Saxe students. Since I live in Pennsylvania, I appreciate being able to see and read the weekly news about their school, and the interesting learning activities the students are doing. The Dogs of Saxe are terrific, too! Thanks for sharing the Saxe news. Have a great year!
