Dear Saxe MS Family,
As time marches on, we wind down our last full week of September. Even with a little bit of rain this week, this seems like the nicest stretch of late summer/early fall weather we have had in many years! It has been great seeing our students and staff participating in learning and activities, inside and out… We appreciate you taking a moment to scroll through to see some of the snapshots that make Saxe MS the special place that it is!
This week in the Saxe Weekly, we take a look at the latest “Weekly” in podcast form, World Language, Leadership Team, Robotics & App Inventor Workshop, a warm welcome, Open House ‘25, an 8Red Charter, a visitor from NCHS, Shark Tank, scenes around Saxe, Dogs of Saxe, and much more. Enjoy and have a wonderful weekend!
Be Well,
Dave Gusitsch

Saxe Weekly: The Podcast

Interested in getting an overview of the latest Saxe Weekly in podcast form? Using Google’s Notebook LM, we are able to offer an option to listen to all of the great “goings on” around Saxe while you are “on the go”! We invite you to give it a listen, here. Enjoy!
World Language
Our Latin students were recently invited to dress up as Romans and participate in the Dies Lustricus, the traditional Roman naming day ceremony. Roman children would wear a bulla, which was a lucky pouch or locket designed to ward off evil spirits. Reflective of the culture and adding a modern spin, each student made a unique bulla to wear, making our Dies Lustricus celebrations extra special.

7th grade:

Leadership Team
The 7th & 8th grade Leadership team met after school and made an “I am a Leader” craft as they brainstormed activities and initiatives to put forth this school year to build connectedness amongst the Saxe community!

7th Robotics and App Inventor Workshops
This week, our Robotics and App Inventor students had a special guest visit from a member of the High School Robotics Team. Students got to see this year’s VEX competition robot up close and learn how the design process guides every step of building and programming. Our guest speaker also shared what it’s like to be part of the robotics club covering how to join, the commitment involved, and the teamwork that drives their success. She even helped some of our students with their robot designs!
Through this experience, students learned key computer science skills, such as thinking like designers, breaking down complex problems, and communicating ideas clearly. They also saw how collaboration and persistence are essential to both robotics and coding, skills they’ll continue to build in our workshops and carry with them into future learning.

Welcome Aboard
We’re thrilled to welcome our new Library Administrative Assistant, Ms.Michelle Kane, to the Saxe MS team for the 2025–26 school year! We’re so glad to have you with us—welcome aboard!

Open House, 2025
We are fortunate to have such a nice gathering space to kick off our Saxe MS Open House ‘25 this week… Thanks to all who attended, it was a great night!

Putting the “open” in the Saxe MS Open House ‘25! Part of the evening included a “Self-Guided Discovery” option for parents to see parts of the building that may not be on their child’s schedule, including the Upper Mez, Design Lab & Fab Lab STEM spaces, & more!

A few scenes around Saxe MS as we prepared to welcome all of our parents into the building for Saxe MS Open House ‘25!

A few scenes around Saxe MS during Open House ‘25! Not only did staff share about what their students are learning, they invited them to get in & get their hands (&, possibly clothes?) dirty! So many great sports & tons of smiles all around!

Not only did staff share what their students are learning, they invited them to get involved, explore, & even leave a note or two for their children! It was fun to see the focus, attention, & smiles on the faces of our attendees!

World Language had a great layout (&, great turnout) as they welcomed parents in to hear about the program!

The “Two Zs” (Click to listen!) (Mr. Zeiser & Zeph) were a dynamic duo as they warmly welcomed our parent community into Saxe MS with some live music for Open House ‘25… Nice job & thank you!

Thank you to our amazing Saxe PTC (&, helpers) for the delicious dinner before our Saxe MS Open House this week! Not only was it delicious, it was fun to see our staff enjoy a good meal together!

It’s not often we get to see the Saxe MS campus & classrooms lit up at night, but it was a beautiful evening for our Open House ‘25 this week!

X
Below are photos and phrases that were included on our Saxe Middle School page (@SaxeMS) this week. Enjoy!

8 Red has “taken off” & got their team charter on display! Comfortable, Confident, Happy, Respected, & Successful are great words to create a balanced, rich, & positive learning environment in their corner of Saxe MS! Nice work, team!

What’s better than seeing our Saxe MS students tinker, explore, & build during their Automation & Robotics unit? Seeing former students come back to share a glimpse of what is possible when they get to NCHS- so inspiring!

A little more tinkering, exploring, & building during the Saxe MS Automation & Robotics unit… It is so inspiring to see the creative, unique, & original “builds” that get made. And, more importantly, the process our students go through to get there!

Saxe Shark Tank is back at it, creating the latest inventions that will change the world! It’s not always about the final product or two that make it to the presentation phase, it’s the PROCESS each & every Saxe MS student gets to experience that is the real magic ingredient!

The Saxe MS morning crew is keeping the streak alive! I don’t think there has been a morning yet that students have not been out on Hawk’s Court before school… We are fortunate to have this available for our students & there’s no better way to start the day!

Scenes Around Saxe
In case you were wondering if we hit the season of “Autumn” yet, this tree along Farm Ave is here to remind us, “Yes, it is!” (great colors)…

Dogs of Saxe
How could you not smile when you have visitors like Max & George dropping their human off for another day of school at Saxe MS?!

Have a great week, see you next Friday!
Thank you to all of our Saxe Weekly contributors! Each weekly edition is an example of collaboration in action. A special thanks to Melissa DiMeglio for the continuous stream of positive, optimistic quotes!
